Two RPS schools named Dept. of Education Green Ribbon Schools Award honorees
RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – Two Richmond elementary educational facilities have been honored by the Department of Training as Environmentally friendly Ribbon Schools for their efforts in sustainability both equally through schooling and by employing sustainable means to lessen their carbon footprint.
John B. Cary Elementary and Patrick Henry Faculty of Science and Arts (PHSSA) ended up awarded their Green Ribbons on Earth Day. Richmond General public Colleges is the only university division in the state of Virginia to receive this year’s award. The two universities were being nominated by the Virginia Division of Education and learning.
Fewer than a mile from the James River, John B. Cary Elementary has been named a “RiverWise School” for acquiring environmental schooling excellence. Its “No Kid Remaining Inside of Eco-Campus” has local community gardens and a reforestation challenge with 15,000 sq. ft of the planted area, which includes 187 indigenous vegetation, 53 shrubs, 16 trees and a pollinator garden.
