Using a Zippo Lighter As a Survival Tool

As a outdoors man, I had my doubts about using a Zippo lighter as a survival tool. But after evaluating them, I found that Zippos really do serve more of a purpose than just lighting cigarettes or cigars.

Zippo’s have great resources such as a quality flint. The great thing about flints is they will spark in any weather condition so if you find dry tinder you can more than likely start a fire. Zippo lighters also contain cotton absorbing fuel pads if you get really desperate to have a warm fire just pull them out and use as flammable tinder. Zippos do have a small fuel container and can run out of fuel quickly but there are many alternative flammable liquids you can use. With a large flame they can provide excellent light in dark caves or any were needing illuminating light. The outer casing of a custom Zippo lighter can be handy too. The solid brass casing could be used as a great source for heating small amounts of water to purify from any bacteria or any harmful things that might be creeping in water you find.
